Richard Western takes another leap in Sustainability

Recent developments onsite at Richard Western have been well above ground level!

The factory workshop roof has just undergone an extensive project to have solar panels installed across the 180 sq m of roof. This is a significant investment spanning a 5-year period which reflects Richard Western’s commitment to being a greener and more sustainable company for the long-term.

So far the solar panels are delivering 1.73 megawatts (MW) of electricity on average each day, of which around 63% of this figure goes to the direct production of trailers and spreaders.   

On the whole, the business uses an average of 2.5MW of electricity onsite daily. Clearly the maths indicates to a much greener solution now in place.

Richard Western is proud to have embraced greener solutions many years ago when in 2012 it became one of the first businesses in Framlingham to have a wind turbine installed. This has delivered 1,305 MG of electricity to date, which is no small figure. However, when looking at real data the wind turbine has proven to deliver up to 90kW per hour compared to the solar panels which have recorded as much as 300 kW per hour.   

The entire team at Richard Western remains resolute in actively looking to implement further change for enhanced sustainability. From inhouse designers, engineers to logistics and the leadership team, the company ethos it to build next generation machinery mindful of its responsibility for the safety and protection of future generations as well as the environment in which they will live.

The machinery which has the longest life has the least impact on the environment. Quality, prime machinery is what Richard Western does best. Manufacturing products which last longer in the field is what Richard Western is known for, making the business supporters of sustainability since it first started trading almost 60 years ago.
